Volunteer

Volunteer at Riverdale

At Riverdale USD, parent and community involvement is essential to supporting our Pre-K–12 students across academics, athletics, and the arts.

  • Booster Clubs: Active high school booster clubs support athletics, band, and the performing arts through fundraising and event coordination. All parents are welcome, and meetings are held monthly.
  • Mentorship & STEM: Share technical skills by volunteering as a STEM club mentor, robotics competition assistant, or guest speaker for student career days.
  • Enrichment & Classroom Support: Assist with elementary enrichment activities (such as art, chess, and coding clubs), PTA health drives, or campus events.
  • Athletics & Extracurriculars: Support youth sports, intramurals, or any of the 32 student clubs and activities active across our campuses.

Our campus volunteer coordinators assist families and community members with volunteer clearance, placement, and scheduling for school activities.

Sign-Up Process

To ensure campus safety, Riverdale USD requires all prospective school volunteers to complete a
standardized clearance process prior to serving on campus or chaperoning events.

Step 2: Present Government-Issued Photo ID

Bring a valid driver's license, state ID, or passport to the school front office for identity verification and initial screening through the visitor management system.

Step 3: Criminal Background Check

All volunteers must clear a local and national criminal background check and sex offender registry screening, processed electronically by the district.

Step 4: Fingerprinting Clearance

Volunteers who will be working unsupervised with students, driving students, coaching, or chaperoning overnight field trips must complete LiveScan fingerprinting through the district HR department.

To support a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment across all Riverdale USD campuses, volunteers must adhere to the following standards of conduct:

Student Safety & Supervision

  • Prioritize student well-being at all times and follow all directions given by district staff.
  • Never leave students unattended or work one-on-one with a student in an isolated space without explicit clearance.

Privacy & Confidentiality

  • Protect student privacy (FERPA) by keeping all academic, behavioral, medical, or personal information completely confidential.
  • Do not take photos or videos of students on personal devices, and never post student images on social media.

Professional Boundaries

  • Maintain clear physical, verbal, and personal boundaries with all students.
  • Limit interactions with students to official school activities; do not exchange phone numbers or social media contacts.

Campus Protocols

  • Check in at the main office with a government-issued photo ID upon arrival and wear your volunteer badge visibly at all times.
  • Check out at the office before leaving campus.

Positive Role Modeling

  • Model respectful, inclusive, and encouraging behavior toward all students and staff.
  • Do not bring unregistered children or guests with you during scheduled volunteer shifts.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment—tobacco, alcohol, illegal substances, and weapons are strictly prohibited on all district property and during off-campus school events.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the immediate termination of volunteer privileges.

Step 6: Final Approval & Campus Check-In

Once clearance is verified, your school coordinator will confirm your active status. Volunteers must sign in at the front office with their ID to receive a printed volunteer badge on every service day.
